About
Age Verification Laws tracks which places require websites, app stores and social media platforms to check a user's age, and where each law stands, including in court.
Who it is for
People who meet an age check and want to know why, parents, journalists, and teams that run websites or apps and need a dated list to start from. It describes laws. It is not legal advice.
Who makes it
Age Verification Laws is made by Secria, which makes Secria Mail and Secria VPN. Because Secria makes a VPN, we hold one rule on this site: we never suggest a VPN as a way around an age check or any country's law.
How we check
Every law, date and status comes from a primary source we opened on the date shown: the bill page or enacted text at the state legislature, the official statute book, a court ruling or docket, or the regulator. The exception is the court steps in the social media cases, which come from the case records the challengers publish unless a court or a state source is cited. Trackers kept by groups on either side of these laws, and news reports, only point us to sources or date a step we could not find at the source. Where a tracker and the law disagree, we use the law. When an official site does not load for us, we read the Internet Archive's copy and say so in the source list, with the copy's date.
Each table says the date it was checked. Laws here change often, so treat any status as true on that date.
